Interview with Deborah and Pembroke Pettit

Cultural Narrative: 

Dr. Deborah Dymacek Pettit was born in 1950 and grew up on a farm in Bumpass, Virginia. She attended Bethany Baptist Church, which was the center of the community. She attended Apple Grove School and went to William and Mary for college. Pembroke Pettit was raised by his parents on a farm in Fredericks Hall, Virginia. He attended Bethpage Christian Church and later joined the Episcopal Church in Mineral. As a child, he attended Mineral Elementary School. Both interviewees reminisce about their childhoods and about their fathers’ professions - Deborah’s father owned a lumber mill and Pembroke’s father was a lawyer who did a lot of work for Louisa’s African American community.
